Webb23 aug. 2015 · The bypass hose just keeps a minimum flow through the water pump and heater core when the thermostat is closed. The cap should have relieved the excess pressure WAY before the heater core gave up. Will have to say that the new heater core had quality issues if it gave up like that. Aug 21, 2015. #3. Why do the standard pumps have such a low psi in a big block. Looks like the m77 pump has a 52 psi spring and comes with an extra 60 psi bypass spring.
