WebbA heuristic is our automatic brain at work. If we bring it back to Kahneman’s thinking, a heuristic is simply a shortcut our automatic (system 1) brain makes to save the mental energy of our deliberate (system 2) brain. This is our survival mechanism at play. You’re probably already familiar with the experience of heuristics. WebbWhen your brain processes a new thought, it starts off as a lesser pathway. Like a baby trying to walk for the first time (neurons connecting from the brain to muscles, for balance etc.) and battling a bit. But the more you do it over and over again in the same way, the stronger and more dominant the neural pathway becomes.
